Mary Swift Book Collection

Mary H.D. Swift was a writer, photographer, and curator, who served as managing editor of the Washington Review, a high quality tabloid publication devoted to the visual, performing and literary art scenes in the Washington, D.C. area between 1975 and 2002. Swift’s papers, which included tape recorded interviews with many artistic luminaries of the time, are held in the Smithsonian Libraries’ Archives of American Art, and her art collection is part of the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center. Swift passed away in 2022.

Her family seeks to place this collection of her art books and artist’s books. Download the spreadsheet listing all titles at this link. The priority is to preserve Mary’s name and connect it with these oddball and wonderful publications as a legacy. Please note, a few items have been removed from this list, including the Ed Ruscha titles, which we figure are already in your collection.
